The Magistrates' Association MA 

is the independent voice for magistrates in England and Wales. 

We are proud to have been granted a Royal Charter in 1962. 

Greater Manchester MA is a branch of the national MA.

The Greater Manchester Magistrates' Association (GMMA) is the local branch of the national Magistrates' Association, the independent membership organisation for magistrates in England and Wales. We are committed to supporting magistrates, promoting the fair administration of justice, and strengthening public understanding of the magistracy. The Greater Manchester Branch covers magistrates in the Bolton, Manchester and Salford, Stockport, Tameside and Wigan magistrates' courts.

Our membership brings together serving and retired magistrates from across Greater Manchester. We provide opportunities for professional development, networking and local engagement, helping magistrates remain informed and connected throughout their service.

Beyond supporting our members, we are passionate about engaging with our communities. Through our Magistrates in the Community (MIC) programme, our volunteers visit schools, colleges, universities and community organisations to explain the role of magistrates and the justice system. Using interactive presentations, mock trials and discussions on topics such as cyberbullying, knife crime and responsible decision-making, we aim to increase understanding of the law and inspire confidence in the justice system.

We are proud that our community outreach has been recognised with The King's Award for Voluntary Service, reflecting the dedication of our volunteers and the positive impact they make across Greater Manchester.
